Employee Engagement Review

The Challenge

To analyse the current level of employee engagement, report back to the Board of Directors and in turn come up with a set of recommendations that would result in improved business performance through discretionary effort, reduced staff turnover and recruitment costs, stronger employer and external brand.

The Solution

We decided to conduct an employee engagement survey followed by focus groups to dig deeper into some of the issues raised in the survey. This was the first time in four years the business had conducted an independent process of this kind and as a result it was a revealing and informative process.

On reporting back to the Board, we came up with a set of recommendations that we thought would make a difference to the business.

The Result

In conjunction with the Board agreed on four key initiatives that the business (not HR) would own that would create improved engagement levels. Just one year on and retention has already improved by 9%; career development has become more of a priority, recruitment spend has reduced and managers feel more confident in understanding what their employees want.
